Abdominoplasty / Tummy Tuck Surgery
Anyone who’s tried knows it’s practically impossible to flatten your midsection through diet and exercise. "It has nothing to do with perseverance," says Dr. Lorenc, who explains that, over time, "the two abdominal muscle groups begin to sag and loosen. The vertical muscles in the midsection and the transverse muscles that run horizontally at the base of your stomach become stretched out. For many men, and women, especially because of pregnancy, even the most stringent diet and exercise cannot reduce and tighten them."
Couple this with the fact that after the age of thirty, individuals tend to gain fat according to a genetically predetermined pattern, and you may be tempted to give up---and give in---to heredity. Unless you talk to Dr. Lorenc, and learn about the benefits of an abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck. He explains that as midsections thicken, sagging, loose stomach muscles are caused by separations in the abdominal wall combined with fatty deposits under the skin.
"Patients may become stronger and more flexible with exercise and increase their metabolic rate. And that’s all to the good. But only surgery that removes excess fat and tightens the underlying muscles will regain a tight, flat midsection and a slimmer, more flattering waistline." Often, Dr. Lorenc will recommend a tummy tuck in combination with a liposuction procedure.
Dr. Lorenc’s tummy tuck procedure involves making an incision across the lower abdomen, just below the bikini line and a little above the pubic area. Another incision is made around the navel to free it from the surrounding skin. The skin is separated from the abdominal wall and lifted above. Next, Dr. Lorenc pulls the loose abdominal tissue together towards the center and sutures it together, tightening muscles to provide a stronger abdominal wall and making the waistline smaller.
He lowers the skin and removes the excess, making a new, properly positioned navel. The incisions are closed with absorbable sutures and a firm elastic dressing is placed over the area. Within a few days, this will be replaced with an elastic abdominal supporter, and Dr. Lorenc will ask you to wear a light support garment for two to three weeks.
Following tummy tuck surgery, Dr.Lorenc recommends avoiding exercise and strenuous activities for about four to six weeks. Think about it. Within days, you’ll have the firm, flat tummy and slender waist that a year dedicated to crunches cannot achieve. Is it worth it? We think you’ll agree, the answer is YES.
