What is a Breast Lift?
A breast lift, or mastopexy surgery, is designed to elevate and reshape breasts that have sagged or lost their shape and volume. Several techniques can be used depending on the degree of sagging.
Who is an Ideal Candidate?
You may be a good candidate for a breast lift if you want to restore the youthful position of your breasts. If you want to correct sagging or overstretched skin of the breast caused by weight gain or loss, pregnancy, or breastfeeding. Also if you want to correct unevenness or asymmetry of your breasts.
Surgery consists of removing excess skin from around the areola (the darker skin surrounding the nipple), and possibly also from the bottom of the breast and breast fold. Tightening the surrounding skin to re-shape and support the breast as well as elevate the nipple and areola to its original position. The size of the areola can be reduced if needed.
Post-procedure tenderness and tightness can be expected. The site of incision may experience discomfort. Incisions will fade and flatten within three months.
