Platysma Burden of Condition Review Accepted for Publication in PRS Global Open

We are thrilled to announce that our manuscript, "Platysma Burden of Condition Review," has been accepted for publication in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Global Open! This milestone represents a significant contribution to the field of aesthetic and reconstructive surgery, providing valuable insights into the assessment and treatment of platysma prominence (PP).

Understanding Platysma Prominence (PP)

Platysma prominence is a common sign of aging in the lower face and neck, characterized by blunting of the jawline and visible vertical banding along the muscle’s anterior and posterior margins. These changes can negatively impact an individual’s self-perception and overall quality of life.

Research Objectives and Methods

Our goal was to consolidate existing knowledge on platysma anatomy, function, and the aesthetic and psychosocial implications of PP while integrating expert perspectives to guide clinical decision-making. We conducted an extensive literature review and combined our findings with expert clinical experience to develop key considerations for evaluating and treating PP.

Key Findings

  • PP can be aesthetically bothersome and have significant psychological effects on affected individuals.

  • A thorough understanding of platysma muscle anatomy is essential for proper patient assessment.

  • OnabotulinumtoxinA has shown promising results in treating PP, offering a non-surgical option for improving appearance and quality of life.

  • Selecting appropriate candidates and using precise dosing and injection techniques can yield consistent, safe, and effective outcomes.

The Future of Platysma Treatment

Our findings underscore the importance of patient-centered approaches and continued research to refine treatment strategies for PP. With advancements in aesthetic medicine, we can enhance patient outcomes and overall well-being through tailored, minimally invasive interventions.

We look forward to sharing this research with the broader medical community and contributing to ongoing advancements in aesthetic and reconstructive surgery. Stay tuned for the full publication in PRS Global Open!
